ACT Chief Minister opens new ACT ABS Office

ACT Chief Minister Kate Carnell officially opened the new ACT Regional Office of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today. The office is on the 5th floor of the QBE Insurance Building, 33-35 Ainslie Avenue, Canberra.

"People in Canberra are very fortunate to have such a rich source of high quality data available for them to use. I encourage all business and all people in the Canberra community to make use of the wide range of information available from the ABS," the Chief Minister said at the opening.

"The release of our State of the Territory publication last week could not have been achieved without the information and advice provided from the Regional Office of the ABS. I would also like to thank Dalma Jacobs for the high quality and personal service she and her staff provide to the ACT," Mrs Carnell said.

"The recently renovated office space will allow for greater interaction with the ACT public," ACT Regional Director Dalma Jacobs said. We are living in the information age, our clients want the latest data and they want to find it easily. One of the standout features of the new office is a larger and more user-friendly bookshop facility.

"These new facilities allow us to demonstrate ABS products in a more professional environment," said Dalma. "Our in-house meeting facilities mean we can provide statistical training sessions and seminars, but in addition we now have the ability to showcase many of the great products on offer from the ABS such as our website which has over 1 million documents accessed every month, our PC AusStats service and other CD ROM services.

"Our new location on Ainslie Avenue is much more convenient and far more accessible to the ACT community as a whole, making the ABS the first stop in the quest for information. A visit to the new ABS Bookshop to discover the wide variety of services available is highly recommended."
