Latest Census information added to ABS data products

Data users can now access 2016 Census data relating to employment, education and internal migration through the Australian Bureau of Statistic’s online TableBuilder tool.

Census DataPacks have also been updated to include this data that was released by the ABS on 23 October 2017.

The update of additional data to TableBuilder and DataPacks is the latest step in the roll-out of 2016 Census data to the Australian people, which began in June this year with the first and main release of 2016 data.

Census Program Manager Bindi Kindermann said the updates to the two products enhanced the scope for people to gain their own insights from Australia’s richest data set.

“To date, there have been some fantastic applications of the 2016 Census data, showing the who, what, when, where, and why of Australia,” Ms Kindermann said.

“We have already seen what the TableBuilder tool can do, with more than 1.6 billion data points processed on the first day of its release earlier this year.

“These latest updates to TableBuilder and DataPacks will be used by governments, councils, businesses, academics, researchers and other organisations to explore local area data around the country and plan for Australia’s future.”

Census TableBuilder enables users to create tables, graphs and maps of Census data. Using TableBuilder, you can construct tables for a wide range of geographical areas, as well as view and export data in a variety of formats. Information on how to use TableBuilder, including video tutorials, can be found on the TableBuilder page.

Census DataPacks contain comprehensive data about people, families and dwellings for all available geographic areas, and are designed for clients who have existing modelling or analysis systems.

The full suite of online Census data products can be found at the ABS website.

Note: All the data in TableBuilder is subjected to a confidentiality process to avoid releasing information that may allow for the identification of particular individuals, families, households, dwellings or businesses. For further details of how the ABS handles your information, see the ABS Privacy Policy and Census Privacy Policy.
