Australia's unemployment rate remained steady at 5.4 per cent in January 2013

Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 5.4 per cent in January, as announced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today.

The ABS reported the number of people employed increased by 10,400 to 11,549,100 in January. The increase in total employment was mainly driven by an increase in female part-time employment.

The ABS monthly seasonally adjusted aggregate hours worked series showed a decrease in January, down 3.9 million hours to 1,619.7 million hours.
