Number of dwelling units approved increase this month.


ABS Building Approvals show that the number of dwelling units approved increased 1.5% in March 2010 and has risen for 14 months in trend terms.

The number of dwellings approved showed the greatest increases in New South Wales (+3.5%), Western Australia (+3.1%) and South Australia (+2.9%).

Private sector houses approved rose 0.2% this month and have increased for 15 months.

New South Wales (-1.4%) was the only state to record a fall this month in private sector house approved, while the largest rises were in South Australia (+1.5%) and Western Australia (+1.0%).

The value of total building approved rose 1.3% in March.The value of total residential and non-residential building approvals rose 1.3% and 1.4% respectively.

In seasonally adjusted terms the number of dwelling units approved rose 15.3% in March, largely driven by a 59.9% increase in private sector other dwelling units approved. This rise follows seasonally adjusted falls for the previous two months.
