OVERVIEW
Part of a series of physical environmental accounts. This publication focuses on Australian energy bearing resources such as petroleum, coal, uranium and renewables, in physical units. Detailed accounts of resource quantities, production and consumption are presented, along with associated greenhouse gas emissions. The latest release includes analytical results from input-output based energy and emissions models. In addition to comprehensive information on direct energy consumption and generation of selected greenhouse gas emissions by industries and households, the indirect impacts of household consumption, Australia's exports, capital formation and government final consumption are also explored.

PURPOSE
Provide a comprehensive snapshot of Australian energy consumption, usage patterns and associated greenhouse gas emissions by drawing on a wide range of information sources. In addition to comprehensive information on direct energy consumption and generation of selected greenhouse gas emissions by industries and households, the indirect impacts of household consumption, Australia's exports, capital formation and government final consumption are also explored.

Assets accounts on natrual energy resouces. Flow (supply and use) accounts of primary and secondary energy products. Greenhouse gas emissions generated by industries and households. Input-output analysis on the direct and indirect impacts of economic activities on energy resources and greenhouse gas emissions.

Classifications
Energy resources by type of energy and greenhouse gas emissions by type consistent with Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) and Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) classifications. Industry classification based on Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) and ABS Input-Output Industry Classification.

COLLECTION HISTORY
This publication presents information from a number of different sources, relating to a number of different years. The physical energy and the greenhouse gas emissions data are mainly sourced from Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) and Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) respectively. The input-output tables referenced are those produced by the ABS. Due to the varying classification systems, definitional differences, presentational styles and various states of revision of data sources, it is not always possible to reconcile the data from the different sources. It should be noted that some differences may also occur between the published National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (NGGI) (AGO 2000) and data presented here. The NGGI is prepared according to guidelines set out by the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change and emissions are presented by source category rather than by end users. The NGGI is the official source of greenhouse gas statistics for Australia.
