LENGTH OF MARRIAGE OF DIVORCING COUPLES

The median duration of marriage to divorce increased from 10.3 years in 1991 to a peak of 12.6 years in 2005. Since 2005 it has remained relatively stable, with a median duration of marriage to divorce of 12.2 years recorded in 2011.

Similarly the median duration of marriage to separation increased from 7.4 years in 1991 to a peak of 8.9 years in 2006. In 2011 the median duration of marriage to separation was 8.7 years.
