OCTOBER KEY POINTS


SHORT-TERM VISITOR ARRIVALS TO AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term visitor arrivals during October 2012 (520,100 movements) increased 0.8% compared with September 2012 (516,200 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 0.7% in both August and September 2012. The current trend estimate for arrivals is 4.3% higher than in October 2011.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2012, short-term visitor arrivals (522,200 movements) recorded an increase of 0.2% compared with September 2012 (521,300 movements). This followed a monthly increase of 4.2% in August 2012 and an increase of 0.9% in September 2012.
  • Original estimates: There were 513,400 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia in October 2012.


SHORT-TERM RESIDENT DEPARTURES FROM AUSTRALIA
  • Trend estimates: Short-term resident departures during October 2012 (685,900 movements) decreased 0.1% compared with September 2012 (686,400 movements). This follows a slight increase in August 2012 and a decrease of 0.1% in September 2012. The current trend estimate for departures is 4.8% higher than in October 2011.
  • Seasonally adjusted estimates: During October 2012, short-term resident departures (679,600 movements) decreased 2.0% compared with September 2012 (693,500 movements). This followed a monthly decrease of 0.2% in August 2012 and a monthly increase of 1.6% in September 2012.
  • Original estimates: There were 642,200 short-term resident departures from Australia during October 2012.
