Due to the seasonal nature of the data, quarterly movements are not included in commentary.

SUMMARY COMMENTARY


AUSTRALIAN TABLE WINE SALES

Total White and Red/Rosé Table Wine

The June 2012 quarter estimate for white table wine was 48.5 million litres, which was 13.5% lower than the June 2011 quarter estimate. The estimate for red/rosé table wine in the June 2012 quarter was 50.6 million litres, which was 17.1% higher than the June 2011 quarter estimate.


Table Wine, Glass Containers Less Than 2 Litres

The June 2012 quarter estimate for white table wine in glass containers less than 2 litres was 23.2 million litres, which was 21.1% lower than the June 2011 quarter estimate. The June 2012 quarter estimate for red/rosé table wine in glass containers less than 2 litres was 28.9 million litres, which was 0.1% higher than the June 2011 quarter estimate.


Table Wine, Soft Pack Containers

The June 2012 quarter estimate for white wine in soft pack containers was 20.8 million litres, which was 14.1% lower than the June 2011 quarter sales estimate. The estimate of red/rosé table wine in soft packs for the June 2012 quarter was 11.3 million litres, which was 12.6% lower than the June 2011 quarter estimate.

IMPORTS

Wine Imports (Excluding Brandy) Cleared for Home Consumption

In the June 2012 quarter, 17.3 million litres of wine was imported, valued at $110.6 million. This represents an increase of 41.6% in quantity and an increase of 25.4% in value from the June 2011 quarter estimate. The average value of wine cleared for home consumption in the June 2012 quarter was $6.41 per litre, down from $7.24 in the June 2011 quarter.
