NOTES

HISTORICAL REVISIONS

This publication includes historical revisions which are also included in the Australian System of National Accounts, 2016-17 (cat. no. 5204.0), released in October 2017 and the September 2017 issue of Balance of Payments and International Investment Position (cat. no. 5302.0) to be released in December 2017. Periodically the entire time series of international trade in goods and services data are opened up for historical revisions. The purpose of revising international trade data is to incorporate updated data sources and a range of improvements to compilation methods and classifications. More information on these revisions can be found in the Information Paper: Changes to the 2016-17 release of the Australian System of National Accounts, 2016-17 (cat. no. 5204.0.55.012).

REVISIONS TO TRAVEL CREDITS BY STATE (TABLE 3) AND TRAVEL CREDITS BY COUNTRY (TABLES 5 AND 7)

From 1 January 2016 the methodology for allocating education fee data for states/territories and countries has been improved. Previously Education-related Travel credits by state/territory and by country were apportioned from the total (national) credits for Education-related Travel using the percentage of international student on-shore enrolments by region and by education sector. State/territory and country allocation of education related fees are now based on data received from the Department of Education and Training on the state of enrolment and nationality of student.

REVISIONS TO MANUFACTURING SERVICES ON PHYSICAL INPUTS OWNED BY OTHERS CREDITS BY STATE (TABLE 3)

Credits of Manufacturing Services on Physical Inputs Owned by Others have not previously been allocated to a specific state or territory. State and territory allocation of the data is now determined using the export port of loading of the 'goods'. Data has been revised back to 2000-01.

REVISIONS TO TRANSPORT SERVICES CREDITS AND DEBITS BY COUNTRY (TABLES 5 AND 6)

Updates have been made to some model specific assumptions that are used to estimate Transport passenger fares. These assumptions now use monthly data available from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics. Data has been revised back to 2006-07.
