MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT

Australian households experienced an estimated 82,900 incidents of motor vehicle theft in the 12 months prior to interview. The majority (65%) of the most recent motor vehicle theft incidents occurred at the victim's home.

Victoria was the only state or territory to experience a significant decrease in victimisation rate for motor vehicle theft from 1.1% in 2008-09 to 0.6% in 2009-10.
