INDIGENOUS EXPERIMENTAL ESTIMATES & PROJECTIONS (CAT. NO. 3238.0)
Experimental Estimates and Projections, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 2006 to 2021 (cat. no. 3238.0) was released on 8 September 2009. This product contains experimental estimates and projections of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous) population of Australia and the states and territories for 30 June 1991 to 30 June 2021, based on the 2006 Census of Population and Housing.
Estimates and projections of the Indigenous population included in this publication are based on a series of assumptions which incorporate recent trends in Indigenous fertility, mortality and internal migration. Using these assumptions, a single series of population estimates for 1991 to 2006 and 14 series of population projections for 2007 to 2021 have been generated. Two projection series (Series A and B) have been chosen for analysis in the publication. Detailed information on these and the remaining series are available in data cubes attached to this publication on the ABS web site.
