WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR

WHAT'S NEW IN REGIONAL STATISTICS

Welcome to the fourth edition of the 'What's New in Regional Statistics' newsletter!

What's in this issue?

There are two feature articles in this issue. In Explore your region with the National Regional Profile, we show how you can use data from the new version of the National Regional Profile to see changes in your region over time, or to compare your region with other regions.

The second feature article, ABS to replace statistical geography in 2011, explains the changes the ABS will be making to the geography we use for statistical outputs. In this article, read about what will replace Statistical Local Areas and other ABS geographies, and about the consultation on new boundaries.

Other information in this newsletter is grouped into topic headings. Under Economy, you will find a link to a recent article on interstate commuters. The new release on 'Population Turnover' ,which reveals which regions across Australia had the highest and lowest 'turnover' of usual residents at the 2006 Census, is one of the releases under the Population and People topic. Under Industry, find out about small area agricultural commodity data. Under Environment and Energy, there is a new statistical profile of the Murray-Darling Basin.

We hope you find this newsletter interesting and informative, and we welcome your feedback and comments.
