This group covers agricultural biotechnology.
It includes:

  • marine biotechnology;
  • genetic modification of plants and animals for agricultural production; and
  • livestock cloning and transgenesis.
This group has ten fields:
    100101 Agricultural Biotechnology Diagnostics (incl. Biosensors)
    100102 Agricultural Marine Biotechnology
    100103 Agricultural Molecular Engineering of Nucleic Acids and Proteins
    100104 Genetically Modified Animals
    100105 Genetically Modified Field Crops and Pasture
    100106 Genetically Modified Horticulture Plants
    100107 Genetically Modified Trees
    100108 Livestock Cloning
    100109 Transgenesis
    100199 Agricultural Biotechnology not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Improvement of plants and animals through selective breeding is included in Division 07 Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences.
    b) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for environmental purposes and biological control of pests, diseases and exotics species is included in Group 1002 Environmental Biotechnology.
    c) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for industrial purposes (other than agriculture) is included in Group 1003 Industrial Biotechnology.
    d) Genetic modification of plants, microbes or animals for medical purposes is included in Group 1004 Medical Biotechnology.
    e) Nanobiotechnology is included in Group 1007 Nanotechnology.
    f) Ethical use of biotechnology is included in Group 2201 Applied Ethics.
