The agricultural industry has been central to Queensland's economic development since the earliest days of European settlement. It is still an important contributor to the state's economy and has maintained its role as a major export earner.


There were an estimated 27,132 farms in Queensland, according to the 2005 Agricultural Survey.

The Statistical Division (SD) with the highest number of farms in Queensland at 30 June 2005 was the Darling Downs SD (5,874). This was followed by the Wide Bay-Burnett SD with 4,875.
