COLLECTION METHODS

STANDARD INPUT CATEGORIES

8. The Full question module used in the HES and SIHC collects a separate value for each source allowing input at the desired level of the classification.

9. The Basic question module collects 'Sources of cash income' data for the three sources collected on a last financial year basis at Question 1 and for the four sources collected on a current basis at Question 3. Questions 7 and 8 also collect specific Government cash pensions and allowances from respondents indicating this as one of their sources at Question 3. The input categories are the response categories to Questions 1, 3, 7 and 8 of the Basic question module.

11. The following table maps the response categories in the Basic question module to the Standard classification of sources of cash income.

11. Responses to Question 1 of the Short question module map directly to the Standard classification of sources of cash income at the broad level, except that response category 4 ('Any other regular source?') maps to Broad group 9 'Other cash income'. It is also a filter question for the optional 'Principal source of cash income' question (Q5) and a reminder to respondents to consider all sources before asking them to report a single value for 'Total cash income' at Question 2.
