PLACING ORDERS

During 2009-10, 46% of all businesses placed orders via the internet. The proportion of businesses increased with each successive employment size range, from 40% for businesses with 0-4 persons employed to 73% for businesses with 200 or more persons employed. This pattern is consistent with previous releases of these data.

Businesses in Professional, scientific and technical services were most likely to place orders for goods or services via the internet (71%) followed by Information media and telecommunications (70%) and Wholesale trade (58%). By contrast, Agriculture, forestry and fishing had the lowest proportion of businesses placing orders over the internet (26%).
