Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were asked to report the volume of data downloaded for the three months ended 31 December 2012.

The ability of ISPs to report the volume of data downloaded is variable. Data presented for these items should only be considered as an indicative measure of internet activity during the reference period and should be used with caution. The occurrence of special events may result in abnormally high downloads.

(c) Wireless includes satellite, fixed wireless, mobile wireless via a datacard, dongle, USB modem or tablet SIM card and other wireless broadband. Excludes data downloaded via mobile handsets.
(d) Dial-up volume is not shown separately, but is included in the total.


The overall volume of data downloaded in the three months ended 31 December 2012 was 554,771 Terabytes, a 34% increase compared with the three months ended 30 June 2012.

Data downloaded by fixed line broadband (526,472 Terabytes) accounted for 95% of all internet downloads in the three months ended 31 December 2012.

The volume of data downloaded by fixed line broadband in the three months ended 31 December 2012 increased by 35% compared with the three months ended 30 June 2012. Data downloaded using wireless broadband also continued to grow, recording an 11% increase over the same period, to 28,196 Terabytes.
