New motor vehicle sales motoring on: ABS The long term trend estimate for total new motor vehicles sales reached new heights (76,225) in May 2003, with the trend estimate rising for the seventh consecutive month. The trend in total vehicle sales increased by 1.6% in May 2003 compared with April 2003. Passenger vehicle sales and other vehicle sales contributed 0.9% and 0.7% respectively to this increase. All states/territories showed an increase in new motor vehicle sales from April 2003 to May 2003. Queensland (2.4%), Tasmania (2.1%), and New South Wales (1.7%) each recorded trend growth above the national average. Seasonally adjusted estimates increased by 3.7% in May 2003 (77,349), compared with April 2003. Passenger vehicle sales contributed 2.3% to this increase and other vehicle sales contributed 1.4%.
