INDUSTRY TRENDS FOOD RETAILING There has been strong trend growth for 11 months. Queensland has had strong growth for 12 months. Victoria and South Australia have had ten months of moderate trend growth. Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory had moderate trend growth in September 2007 following periods of strong growth. DEPARTMENT STORES The trend growth in September 2007 was weak following seven months of moderate growth. New South Wales also had weak growth in September following nine months of medium to strong growth. Western Australia was the only published state with strong trend growth in September, while South Australia was in decline. CLOTHING AND SOFT GOOD RETAILING There has been three months of medium trend growth following four months of strong growth. Victoria (15 months), South Australia (five months), and Western Australia (one month) have had strong trend growth. New South Wales and Tasmania were in decline in September 2007. HOUSEHOLD GOOD RETAILING There has been strong trend growth for three months. New South Wales (three months), Victoria (five months), Queensland (two months) and the Northern Territory (11 months) have had strong growth. South Australia (one month), Western Australia (five months) and the Australian Capital Territory (ten months) have been in decline. RECREATIONAL GOOD RETAILING There has been weak trend growth for three months. New South Wales (two months) and Western Australia (four months) have had strong trend growth. Victoria had weak trend growth in September 2007, while the remainder of the states were in decline. OTHER RETAILING There has been four months of strong trend growth. New South Wales (six months), Victoria (three months), Queensland (six months) and South Australia (three months) have had strong trend growth. TOTAL RETAIL (EXCLUDING HOSPITALITY AND SERVICES) Over the last seven months, the trend growth for Total retail (excluding Hospitality and services) has been similar to Total industries (including Hospitality and services). HOSPITALITY AND SERVICES There has been moderate trend growth for nine months. Queensland (eight months), South Australia (eight months), Tasmania (seven months) and the Australian Capital Territory (five months) have had strong growth.
