REVISIONS TO THE COMPLETELY ENUMERATED SECTOR

The historical Retail turnover series was revised in the July 2008 issue of this publication to account for the level shift resulting from the introduction of changes to scope and methodology to the series. Historical estimates for the completely enumerated sector were revised to account for the scope change but not for the methodological change. The completely enumerated sector comprises 'large' businesses that are in the survey each month. This grouping is not fixed and can change over time. However it tends to remain relatively constant from month to month. Analysis of the series has indicated that the methodological change resulted in a greater than normal change in the size of the completely enumerated sector between June and July 2008.

The completely enumerated sector component of the total estimate has been revised back to the July 2007 retail sample redesign which was used for the period July 2007 to June 2008. For the June 2008 reference month, the completely enumerated sector has been revised down by $102.1 million. Conversely, the sample sector component has been revised up by the same amount.

Monthly estimates for the completely enumerated sector are available from the Downloads tab of this issue and estimates for the sample sector are available from Retail Trade Quarterly Indicators, Australia (cat. no. 8502.0).
