In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in May 2018 following a rise of 0.3% in April 2018 and a rise of 0.3% in March 2018.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.4% in May 2018 following a rise of 0.5% in April 2018 and a relatively unchanged result (0.0%) in March 2018.

The original estimate for Australian turnover rose 4.3% in May 2018. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers rose 4.7% in May 2018. The original estimate for smaller retailers rose 3.4% in May 2018.

TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in May 2018: New South Wales (0.4%), Victoria (0.3%), Queensland (0.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.6%), Tasmania (0.5%), the Northern Territory (0.9%), and South Australia (0.1%). Western Australia (0.0%) was relatively unchanged in trend terms in May 2018.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in May 2018: New South Wales (0.5%), Queensland (0.4%), South Australia (1.1%), Victoria (0.2%), Tasmania (1.5%), and the Northern Territory (0.4%). The Australian Capital Territory (0.0%) was relatively unchanged. Western Australia (-0.5%) fell in seasonally adjusted terms in May 2018.
