The chart below shows the trend series and seasonally adjusted series to January 2016.

In current prices, the trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in January 2016 following a rise of 0.3% in December 2015 and a rise of 0.3% in November 2015.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in January 2016 following a relatively unchanged (0.0%) December 2015 and a rise of 0.4% in November 2015.

The original estimate for Australian turnover fell 22.6% in January 2016. The original estimate for chains and other larger retailers fell 24.3% in January 2016. The original estimate for smaller retailers fell 19.0% in January 2016.

TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE

The following states and territories rose in trend terms in January 2016: New South Wales (0.3%), Victoria (0.3%), Queensland (0.3%), South Australia (0.4%), the Australian Capital Territory (1.0%), Tasmania (0.4%) and the Northern Territory (0.5%). Western Australia (0.0%) was relatively unchanged in trend terms in January 2016.

The following states and territories rose in seasonally adjusted terms in January 2016: New South Wales (0.5%), Queensland (0.3%), South Australia (0.4%), Western Australia (0.2%), Tasmania (1.0%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.7%) and the Northern Territory (1.3%). Victoria (0.0%) was relatively unchanged in seasonally adjusted terms in January 2016.
