TOTAL RETAIL - QUARTERLY
In volume terms, the seasonally adjusted estimate for the December quarter 2016 rose 0.9% following a relatively unchanged (0.0%) September quarter 2016 and a rise of 0.3% in the June quarter 2016.
In the December quarter 2016, the seasonally adjusted estimate rose in volume terms for Household goods retailing (2.5%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (1.5%), Food retailing (0.3%), Department stores (1.2%) and Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.2%), Other retailing (-0.1%) fell in the December quarter 2016.
The Implicit Price Deflator for Australian turnover rose 0.3% in seasonally adjusted terms in the December quarter 2016.
TOTAL RETAIL - BY STATE
The following states and territories rose in trend terms in December 2016: New South Wales (0.3%), Victoria (0.4%), Queensland (0.3%), South Australia (0.1%), Western Australia (0.1%), Tasmania (0.3%), the Northern Territory (0.6%) and the Australian Capital Territory (0.2%).
The following states and territories fell in seasonally adjusted terms in December 2016: Victoria (-0.4%), New South Wales (-0.3%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.7%). Queensland (0.0%) was relatively unchanged. South Australia (1.2%), Western Australia (0.6%), the Northern Territory (1.1%) and Tasmania (0.5%) rose in December 2016.
