Businesses were asked to estimate the percentage of their total business income that was resultant from the sale of new or significantly improved goods and/or services introduced during the year ending 30 June 2015. This was the first time that businesses were asked to provide this information.

The proportion of businesses that introduced new goods and/or services that reported 0% of income generated from sales of new goods and services was 13%. Almost one in three goods and/or services innovators reported generating greater than 0% and less than 5% of total business income from the sale of their new or significantly improved goods and/or services (32%); this was the most common percentage range response by businesses across all employment size ranges.

By industry, half of all businesses that introduced new goods and/or services in Health care and social assistance reported that greater than 0% and less than 5% of their total income was derived from the sale of their new or significantly improved goods and/or services (50%).

More than one in five businesses that introduced new goods and/or services in the Rental, hiring and real estate services industry reported that greater than or equal to 25% of their total income was derived from the sale of their new or significantly improved goods and/or services (23%). This was the largest proportion across all industries.
