Trends in livestock slaughtered and meat produced

Cattle

Compared to August 2019:

  • Cattle slaughtered increased 0.9% to 711,200 head
  • Beef production increased 0.8% 200,600 tonnes

Compared to September 2018:
  • Cattle slaughtered increased 5.9%
  • Beef production increased 4.5%

Calves

Compared to August 2019:
  • Calves slaughtered decreased 1.4% to 45,800 head
  • Veal production decreased 0.2% to 2,300 tonnes

Compared to September 2018:
  • Calves slaughtered increased 10.1%
  • Veal production increased 31.2%

Sheep

Compared to August 2019:
  • Sheep slaughtered decreased 1.1% to 697,600 head
  • Mutton production increased 0.4% to 17,600 tonnes

Compared to September 2018:
  • Sheep slaughtered decreased 19.6%
  • Mutton production decreased 14.0%

Lamb

Compared to August 2019:
  • Lambs slaughtered decreased 1.2% to 1.65 million head
  • Lamb production decreased 0.8% to 39,200 tonnes

Compared to September 2018:
  • Lambs slaughtered decreased 8.1%
  • Lamb production decreased 1.5%

Pigs

Compared to August 2019:
  • Pigs slaughtered decreased 0.5% to 418,300 head
  • Pork production decreased 0.6% to 32,200 tonnes
