Trends in livestock slaughtered and meat produced

Cattle

Compared to July 2019:

  • Cattle slaughtered increased 0.1% to 692,300 head
  • Beef production remained steady at 195,900 tonnes

Compared to August 2018:
  • Cattle slaughtered increased 2.8%
  • Beef production increased 1.6%

Calves

Compared to July 2019:
  • Calves slaughtered decreased 1.3% to 46,500 head
  • Veal production decreased 0.7% to 2,200 tonnes

Compared to August 2018:
  • Calves slaughtered increased 14.4%
  • Veal production increased 30.7%

Sheep

Compared to July 2019:
  • Sheep slaughtered decreased 2.5% to 691,700 head
  • Mutton production decreased 1.9% to 16,700 tonnes

Compared to August 2018:
  • Sheep slaughtered decreased 22.5%
  • Mutton production decreased 19.6%

Lamb

Compared to July 2019:
  • Lambs slaughtered decreased 3.1% to 1.62 million head
  • Lamb production decreased 2.7% to 38,300 tonnes

Compared to August 2018:
  • Lambs slaughtered decreased 12.1%
  • Lamb production decreased 6.3%

Pigs

Compared to July 2019:
  • Pigs slaughtered decreased 0.8% to 418,200 head
  • Pork production decreased 0.8% to 32,300 tonnes

Compared to August 2018:
  • Pigs slaughtered decreased 8.1%
  • Pork production decreased 9.7%
