AUGUST KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings rose for the tenth consecutive month, to 1.0 million. This was the highest figure recorded since July 2005.
  • The trend estimate for lamb slaughterings rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 1.7 million. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production rose for the tenth consecutive month, to 21,200 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since January 2003.
  • The trend estimate for lamb meat production rose for the eighth consecutive month, to 35,800 tonnes. This was the highest figure recorded since records began in 1979.
