Tropical Cyclone Larry bruises banana businesses
Results from the 2005-06 Agricultural Census show that banana production for the 2005-06 year was down by about a third. This fall is mainly attributed to the devastating impact Cyclone Larry had on the main banana growing region of Queensland in late March 2006. Yield fell from nearly 26 tonnes per hectare in 2004-05 to 17 tonnes per hectare in 2005-06.

Tassie takes the most peas out of pod
As is usually the case each year, Tasmania grew by far the most peas for processing in 2005-06. Census results show that after shelling, Tasmania had harvested 16,500 tonnes or 99.9% of the national crop harvest of all peas for processing.
