VISIT BY STATISTICS NEW ZEALAND AGRICULTURE STAFF

In late November, the Agriculture NSC hosted a visit by two officers from the Business Performance, Energy and Agriculture Section of Statistics New Zealand.

The object of the exercise was to share ideas and compare developments on issues associated with the collection of agricultural statistics in our respective countries. Our NZ colleagues, Jean and Andrew, not only spent time being briefed by ABS officers on matters affecting us but also visited the offices of the Australian Bureau of Resource Economics and the National Farmers Federation.

Over the course of two busy days, a range of topics relating to agriculture statistics were covered. Subjects included the current direction of the ABS agriculture program, stakeholder input, water statistics, environmental accounting, question and questionnaire development and design, agriculture finance statistics, and National Accounts requirements.

As well as talking to Central Office ABS staff, a video link with the Agriculture BSC in our Hobart office ensured Jean and Andrew were updated on the latest developments regarding collection methodology, data processing and statistical outputs.
