STAGE OF PRODUCTION (SOP) OVERVIEW

In the June quarter 2017, the Final demand index rose 0.5%, the Intermediate demand index rose 0.5% and the Preliminary demand index rose 0.4%. Through the year to the June quarter 2017, the Final demand index rose 1.7%, the Intermediate demand index rose 2.5% and the Preliminary demand index rose 2.4%.

The rise of 0.5% in the Final demand index in the June quarter 2017 reflected a rise of 0.6% in the prices of domestically produced products and 0.2% in the prices of imported products.

The domestic component recorded rises in the prices for Heavy and civil engineering construction (+0.9%), Building construction (+0.8%) and Other agriculture (+7.9%). Partly offsetting these rises were falls in the prices for Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-4.8%), Accommodation (-4.2%) and Bakery product manufacturing (-1.0%).

The imports component recorded rises in the prices for Furniture and other manufacturing (+2.8%), Motor vehicle and part manufacturing (+0.6%) and Clothing manufacturing (+1.8%). Partly offsetting these rises were falls in the prices for Computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-0.9%), Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-4.5%) and Beverage and malt manufacturing (-5.2%).

The rise of 0.5% in the Intermediate demand index in the June quarter 2017 reflected a rise of 0.5% in the prices of domestically produced products and a rise of 0.8% in the prices of imported products.

The domestic component recorded rises in the prices for Real estate services (+2.9%), Sheep, beef cattle and grain farming; and dairy cattle farming (+3.4%) and Non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (+1.8%). Partly offsetting these rises were falls in the price for Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-4.9%), Employment services (-1.0%) and Metal ore mining (-11.9%).

The imports component recorded rises in the prices for Textile, clothing, footwear and leather manufacturing (+1.7%), Basic ferrous metal product manufacturing (+9.1%) and Basic non-ferrous metal manufacturing (+5.5%). Party offsetting these rises were falls in the prices for Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-4.8%), Oil and gas extraction (-6.1%) and Computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-1.9%).

The rise of 0.4% in the Preliminary demand index in the June quarter 2017 reflected a rise of 0.4% in the prices of domestically produced products and a rise of 0.7% in the prices of imported products.

The domestic component recorded rises in the prices for Sheep, beef cattle and grain farming; and dairy cattle farming (+3.6%), Real estate services (+2.9%) and Rail freight transport (+15.3%). Partly offsetting these rises were falls in Metal ore mining (-16.4%), Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-5.8%) and Employment services (-1.0%).

The imports component recorded rises in the prices for Textile, clothing, footwear and leather manufacturing (+1.5%), Basic ferrous metal product manufacturing (+10.4%) and Basic non-ferrous metal manufacturing (+5.6%). Partly offsetting these rises were falls in the prices for Oil and gas extraction (-6.3%), Petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-4.1%) and Computer and electronic equipment manufacturing (-1.8%).
