The trend estimate for males employed full-time rose from 4,254,400 in January 1998 to 4,398,800 in August 2000 before dropping to 4,336,000 in July 2001. The trend then rose steadily with minor fluctuations to stand at 4,948,600 in January 2008.

MALES AGED 15-19 YEARS

Although fluctuating, the trend estimate for males aged 15 to 19 years employed full-time decreased from 146,500 in January 1998 to 134,700 in March 2001. Despite falls in 2001 and 2004, the trend then increased to 160,800 in April 2005 before decreasing to 153,800 in December 2006. The trend then rose to stand at 170,900 in January 2008.

MALES AGED 20 YEARS AND OVER

The trend estimate for males employed full-time aged 20 years and over rose from 4,107,800 in January 1998 to 4,254,100 in August 2000. The trend then fell to 4,194,500 in July 2001 before rising steadily to 4,777,700 in January 2008.

FEMALES EMPLOYED FULL TIME

The trend estimate of females employed full-time generally rose from 2,084,800 in January 1998 to 2,271,700 in March 2001 before falling to 2,222,800 in March 2002. The trend then rose with minor fluctuations to stand at 2,650,400 in January 2008.

FEMALES AGED 15-19 YEARS

The trend estimate for females aged 15 to 19 employed full-time generally rose from 76,400 in January 1998 to 89,200 in February 2001. The trend then fell to 76,500 in September 2002 before rising with some fluctuations to stand at 87,100 in May 2005. The trend then fell to 85,300 in August 2006 before rising to 92,300 in January 2008.

FEMALES AGED 20 YEARS AND OVER

The trend estimate for females aged 20 years and over employed full-time rose from 2,008,400 in January 1998 to 2,183,000 in March 2001. The trend then fell to 2,145,000 in February 2002 before rising, with minor fluctuations, to stand at 2,558,200 in January 2008.
