Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with more than 1,000 subscribers were asked to report the volume of data downloaded for the three months ended 30 June 2013.

The ability of ISPs to report the volume of data downloaded is variable. Data presented for these items should only be considered as an indicative measure of internet activity during the reference period and should be used with caution. The occurrence of special events may result in abnormally high downloads.

(b) Fixed line includes DSL, cable, fibre and other fixed line broadband.
(c) Wireless includes satellite, fixed wireless, mobile wireless via a datacard, dongle, USB modem or tablet SIM card and other wireless broadband. Excludes data downloaded via mobile handsets which is reported in the mobile handset chapter.
(d) Dial-up volume is not shown separately, but is included in the total.


The overall volume of data downloaded in the three months ended 30 June 2013 increased by 18%, compared with the three months ended 31 December 2012, to 657,262 Terabytes.

Data downloaded by fixed-line broadband (629,964 Terabytes) accounted for 96% of all internet downloads in the three months ended 30 June 2013.

The volume of data downloaded by fixed-line broadband in the three months ended 30 June 2013 increased by 20% compared with the three months ended 31 December 2012. Data downloaded using wireless broadband recorded a 3% decrease compared to the three months ended 31 December 2012, to 27,232 Terabytes, however annual comparison shows an 8% increase.
