Assets of Securitisers
At 31 March 2016, total assets of Australian securitisers were $136.1b, up $0.2b (0.1%) on 31 December 2015.
During the March quarter 2016, the increase in total assets was due to an increase in residential mortgage assets (up $0.7b, 0.6%). This was partially offset by a decrease in other assets (down $0.2b, 29.3%) and other long term securities (down $0.1b, 11.0%).
Residential and non-residential mortgage assets, which accounted for 84.1% of total assets, were $114.5b at 31 March 2016, an increase of $0.7b (0.6%) during the quarter.
Liabilities of Securitisers
At 31 March 2016, total liabilities of Australian securitisers were $136.1b, up $0.2b (0.1%) on 31 December 2015. The increase in total liabilities was due to an increase in loan and placements (up $1.9b, 8.5%). This was offset by a decrease in long term asset backed securities issued in Australia (down $1.0b, 1.0%) and asset backed securities issued overseas (down $0.7b, 11.0%).
At 31 March 2016, asset backed securities issued overseas as a proportion of total liabilities decreased to 4.5%, compared to the December quarter 2015 proportion of 5.0%. Asset backed securities issued in Australia as a proportion of total liabilities decreased to 77.3%, compared to the December quarter 2015 proportion of 78.0%.
In this issue revisions have been made to the original series as a result of the receipt of revised survey data. These revisions have impacted the assets and liabilities reported in the December 2015 quarter.
