APPLICANT FOR DIVORCE

Over the last 20 years, the proportion of joint applications has been increasing, while the proportion of applications by only the male or female have decreased.

In 2006, the proportion of joint applications overtook applications by the male only (a difference of 0.8 percentage points). In 2008, the gap between female only and joint applications as a proportion of all divorces narrowed even further (2.1 percentage points compared to 5 percentage points in 2007). At the current rate of increase, joint applications for divorce as a proportion of all divorces may soon represent the dominant application type.
