The 2016-17 Patient Experience Survey (PEx) collected data from 28,207 fully responding persons across Australia, about their experiences with selected aspects of the health system in the 12 months before their interview. The questionnaire contained 12 PEx modules and resulted in 106 PEx related output data items. Information on labour force characteristics, education, income and other demographics was also collected.

A list of all data items available for use within the TableBuilder, including relevant population and classification details can be found on the Downloads tab in this release.

The 2016-17 PEx survey is a single level survey, with data available only at the Person level. While the data items are labelled 'Person and Household Level Data Items', data will only ever be tabulated and weighted at the person level. That is, all tables produced provide estimates of the number of people with particular characteristics.

The following image depicts the 2016-17 PEx Person level categories and the sub-categories under which the individual data items have been grouped.
