This article provides a brief overview of the prevalence of physical activity in Australia for sport, recreation and fitness. Information about the health status, co-existing risk factors and demographic characteristics of those with insufficient physical activity are included, with additional information on sport-related participation, injuries and hospitalisations. This article primarily uses data from the 2004-05 National Health Survey, with data from the 2004-05 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survey, 2002 General Social Survey, April 2006 Survey of Children's participation in Cultural and Leisure Activities and 2003 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers being included.
