GROSS VALUE OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION (GVAP)


  • In 2010-11, the total Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVAP) for Australia was $46.0 billion. The three commodities with the highest GVAP in Australia were cereals for grain and seed valued at $9.7 billion, production from sheep and other livestock at $9.2 billion and production from meat cattle, which had a GVAP of $7.8 billion.
  • In the Murray Darling Basin (MDB) region, the total GVAP was $19.2 billion, which is 42% of the total GVAP for Australia. In 2010-11, the commodities with the highest GVAP in the MDB were cereals for grain and seed valued at $5.6 billion, production from sheep and other livestock at $3.7 billion and production from meat cattle, which had a GVAP of $2.1 billion.
  • In the states and territories, cereals for grain and seed had the highest GVAP in New South Wales ($3.3 billion) and South Australia ($2.2 billion). Production from sheep and other livestock was the commodity with highest GVAP in Victoria at $2.7 billion and the Australian Capital Territory at $6 million. In Queensland and the Northern Territory production from meat cattle was the highest at $3.4 billion and $315 million respectively. Whilst in Tasmania, dairy production and vegetables were highest at $312 million and $201 million respectively . These two commodities combined represented 44% of the Tasmanian total GVAP.
