SUMMARY


The Energy Account, Australia (EAA) provides statistics to monitor changes in the supply and use of energy over time, both from an economic and an environmental perspective. The EAA forms part of a suite of environmental-economic accounts being developed for Australia.


AUSTRALIA'S ENERGY AT A GLANCE

  • In 2015-16 a net total of 23,244 petajoules (PJ) of energy were supplied by, and used within Australia’s economy.
  • In gross terms Australia's energy supply increased by 6% between 2014-15 and 2015-16.
  • Energy intensity (measured in GJ/$m IGVA) decreased by 2% between 2014-15 and 2015-16.
  • Household energy use per person decreased by 1% between 2014-15 and 2015-16.


INTRODUCTION OF GROSS PHYSICAL FLOW TABLES

Starting with this 2015-16 edition of the Energy Account, Australia the ABS have introduced a gross presentation for the physical flow accounts as recommended by the System of Environmental Economic Accounting 2012 Central Framework (SEEA CF).
