Data refer to births registered during the calendar year shown, unless otherwise stated. State or territory relates to the state or territory of usual residence, unless otherwise stated. CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE This issue contains a revision to the Estimated Resident Population (ERP) and resulting birth rates for 2014. Data for 2014 now have the status of revised and will not change until ERP is rebased following the 2016 Census. State and territory level data has been published in a series of ABS.Stat datasets, replacing the release of data cubes (Excel files). These datasets include births registered since 1975. ABS.Stat is an interactive free online tool that presents data in a searchable, flexible and dynamic way. Data at the sub-state level and by country of birth remain published as data cubes. 2015 POPULATION USED IN THIS RELEASE All ERPs for 30 June 2015 (preliminary) are based on the results of the 2011 Census and are the latest available ERPs, given the time needed to produce births data. As a consequence of using the latest available ERPs for 2015, state and territory totals in sub-state data cubes are slightly different from those in other data cubes. This does not affect births data. The ERPs used in this release are as follows: State, Territory and Australia level ERP (preliminary status), released in Australian Demographic Statistics, Dec 2015 (cat. no. 3101.0) published on 23 June 2016. ERP by Country of Birth for Australia (preliminary status), released in Migration, Australia, 2014-15 (cat. no. 3412.0) published on 30 March 2016. Sub-State ERP (preliminary status), released in Population by Age and Sex, Regions of Australia, 2015 (cat. no. 3235.0) published on 18 August 2016. ROUNDING Calculations as shown in the commentary sections of this publication are based on unrounded figures. Calculations undertaken by data users using rounded figures may differ from those published. ERROR MINIMISATION Every effort is made to minimise error by working closely with data providers, including supporting the careful design of forms, training of processing staff, and efficient data processing procedures. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The ABS values the efforts of the Registries of Births, Deaths and Marriages to improve the data quality, coverage and timeliness of birth registration information, processes and systems. CONFIDENTIALITY Where necessary, tables have had small values suppressed or randomised to protect confidentiality. As a result, sums of components may not add exactly to totals. These very minor adjustments allow for a greater amount of detailed data to be released, and as they are small, do not affect the utility of the data.
