OVERSEAS ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES (CAT. NO. 3401.0)

The September 2009 issue of Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, (cat. no. 3401.0) was released on 6 November 2009. It comprises a summary of monthly movement data by category of travel. The main focus of this publication is on the movements of short-term visitor arrivals and short-term resident departures but also includes information on permanent and long-term movements. It provides data on the country of usual residence (arrivals) and the principal destination (departures) as well as the intended length of stay and the main reason for journey.

Suspension of trend estimates (short-term resident departures) from April 2009

The trend estimates have been suspended from April 2009 for all Short-term Resident Departures series. The trend estimates will be reintroduced when more stability emerges in the underlying behaviour of passenger movements. For more information see the Notes page of Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, September 2009 (cat. no. 3401.0)

Appropriate seasonally adjusted estimates can be produced and will continue to be published as usual.

Also, caution should be used when interpreting recent Short-term Visitor Arrivals trend estimates as they may be affected by unusual economic factors.
