CHANGES TO RELEASE DATES

Release dates for forthcoming issues have been changed to allow for the use of additional data in the calculation of improved preliminary net overseas migration (NOM) estimates. Further information will be published in Information Paper: Improving Net Overseas Migration Estimation, March 2010 (cat. no. 3412.0.55.001).


ERP STATUS

Data for 30 September 2001 to 30 June 2006 are final and based on the 2006 Census of Population and Housing. Data for the 2006-07 financial year have been revised and data from 30 September 2007 onwards are preliminary. For further information refer to paragraph 7 of the Explanatory Notes.

Due to the collection and estimation methods applied to produce preliminary statistics, users should exercise caution when analysing and interpreting the most recent annual and quarterly estimates for all components of the estimated resident population (ERP), particularly when making time series comparisons.


CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

Changes in this issue are as follows:

• An international comparison has been included in the Main Features.
• Preliminary total fertility rates (TFRs), standardised death rates (SDRs) and infant mortality rates (IMRs) for 2008-09 are published in tables 13, 14 and 15;
• Population estimates for Australian External Territories have been updated to 30 June 2009 in table 8;

CHANGES TO THE NEXT ISSUE

The next issue of Australian Demographic Statistics, September Quarter 2009 (cat. no. 3101.0) has been rescheduled for release on 25 March 2010. It will include:

• Sceduled annual revisions for 2007-08 financial year for births, deaths, natural increase, NOM, ERP, TFRs, SDRs and IMRs.
• An update of the preliminary NOM estimates for September quarter 2008 to June quarter 2009 will occur due to estimation improvements. The preliminary NOM estimates for September quarter 2009 will also be based on these improvements.

UPCOMING RELEASES

Population by Age and Sex, Australian States and Territories, June 2009 (cat. no. 3201.0) will be released on 9 December 2009.

Information Paper: Improving Net Overseas Migration Estimation, March 2010 (cat. no. 3412.0.55.001) will be released on 12 March 2010.
