Meat cattle are raised throughout Queensland. At 30 June 2005, the Queensland meat cattle herd stood at 11.4 million.

At 30 June 2005, most meat cattle in Queensland were found in the Fitzroy Statistical Division (1.9 million), the North West Statistical Division (1.7 million) and the Darling Downs Statistical Division (1.6 million).
