Wheat is predominantly grown in north western areas of the state, especially in the Mallee and Wimmera Statistical Divisions (SDs). In 2001-02, production was 2.8 million tonnes.

In 2001-02, 40% of all wheat produced in Victoria came from Mallee SD (1.1 million tonnes). This was followed by Wimmera SD with 32% (892,500 tonnes).
