VICTIM CHARACTERISTICS

Sex and Age

In 2011, more males than females were victims of murder (64%), robbery (60%), and blackmail/extortion (59%). More females than males were victims of sexual assault (85%) and kidnapping/abduction (60%).

      During 2011, 37% (90) of victims of murder were aged 45 years and over, with 6.6% (16) of victims aged 65 years and over.

      More than two in five robbery victims in 2011 were aged between 15 and 24 years (43% or 4,848 victims) (Table 2.2).
