Description Safe at Home Information Management System (SIMS) was designed to facilitate the efficient transfer of information pertinent to the management of risk and safety between Safe at Home services. Safe at Home services include: Police Prosecution; Tasmania Police Victim Safety Response Teams, Court Support and Liaison Service, Family Violence Counselling & Support Service, Defendant Health Liaison Service; Child Protection; and the Family Violence Offender Intervention Program. The system includes incident data as well as information generated at weekly case coordination meetings attended by Safe at Home services and by case managers in the course of their duties. Definition of Family and Domestic Violence Family and Domestic Violence is defined as per the Family Violence Act 2004. Family violence means: (a) any of the following types of conduct committed by a person, directly or indirectly, against that person’s spouse or partner: (i) assault, including sexual assault; (ii) threats, coercion, intimidation or verbal abuse; (iii) abduction; (iv) stalking within the meaning of section 192 of the Criminal Code; (v) attempting or threatening to commit conduct referred to in subparagraph (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv); or (b) any of the following: (i) economic abuse; (ii) emotional abuse or intimidation; (iii) contravening an external family violence order, an interim FVO, an FVO or a PFVO. Collection methodology SIMS is maintained by the Department of Justice, however all Safe at Home services and their staff have access to the system and can input data. Safe at Home Services are provided by the Departments of Health and Human Services, Police and Emergency Management and Justice. Hence, information is shared between services and departments. A case record is created by the electronic transfer of incident related data from the Family Violence Management System maintained by Tasmania Police. All family violence incidents and arguments attended by operational Police are recording in the FVMS system and the data is transferred to SIMS. This information is mandatory.
