Purpose
To provide a detailed view of the structure and performance of the Australian economy.

Description
The Australian National Accounts summarise, in a systematic and comprehensive way, the economic transactions that take place within the Australian economy and between Australia and the rest of the world. The usefulness of the accounts derives largely from the way in which data from a number of sources are brought together and presented in a conceptually consistent way, both for a given period and over time. Australia's National Accounts are in accordance with the recommendations contained in the System of National Accounts, 1993, which is the international conceptual standard for the development of National Accounts. The National Accounts are compiled from a wide range of statistical data, including virtually all Australian Bureau of Statistics economic collections and various administrative by-product statistics.
