2.39 The UN standards recommend that the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) be used for the collection, compilation and dissemination of international merchandise trade statistics. While Australia collects and disseminates these statistics on the basis of the HS classification, data are also published according to two other international commodity classifications, the Standard International Trade Classification, Revision 3 (SITC, Rev.3) and the Classification by Broad Economic Categories (BEC). Statistics are also published classified by industry of origin in accordance with the Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC).
