EXPLANATORY NOTES

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

Data for the annual Economic Activity Survey are released in multiple publications. The Australian Industry (cat. no. 8155.0) publication is the main release, and this publication is the secondary release. The Mining Operations publication contains more detailed information about the Australian Mining industry. In previous issues separate Explanatory Notes and Technical Notes have been published relating to the Mining industry. In this issue a single set of explanatory material has been published in Australian Industry except for the Glossary which remains separate for Mining Operations. See below for links to specific pages.

Scope and coverage information

For scope and coverage information, see paragraphs 6-21 of the Explanatory Notes in the Australian Industry publication.

Survey methodology

For information about survey methodology, see the Estimation Methodology Technical Note in the Australian Industry publication.

Data quality

For information on relative standard errors, see the Data Quality Technical Note in the Australian Industry publication.

State and territory estimates

For information about the method used to obtain state and territory estimates, see the State and Territory Estimates Technical Note in the Australian Industry publication.

Off-June adjusted estimates

The data collected in the Economic Activity Survey (EAS) generally represent the 12 month period ended 30 June. However, where businesses are unable to provide data on this basis, an alternate, or Off-June year accounting period is used. As a result, in some instances estimates may reflect trading conditions occurring outside of the published reference year. This issue particularly affects the Mining industry.

For information about off-June adjusted estimates, see the Off-June Year adjusted estimates Technical Note in the Australian Industry publication.

For current off-June adjusted estimates, see the Off-June adjusted estimates datacube in the Australian Industry publication.
