The Australian and New Zealand Standard Product Classification (ANZSPC) has been produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and Statistics New Zealand for the collection and presentation of product statistics in both countries. It replaces the Australian and New Zealand Standard Commodity Classification (ANZSCC). The development of the ANZSPC resulted from the need to update the ANZSCC to include new products and services. In addition, it was decided to align the classification closely with the latest international standards for product classification, presented in the Central Product Classification Version 1.0 (CPC) published by the United Nations Statistics Division in 1998, to provide international comparability. Particular attention has been given to expanding and improving the services part of the classification and adapting the CPC Version 1.0 to Australian and New Zealand conditions. In preparing this classification, considerable effort has gone into ensuring that the classification reflects the current business/technology environment, and provides a sound basis for updating the classification in the future, as necessary.

Where appropriate, correspondences have been developed with existing classifications, such as the ANZSCC and CPC Version 1.0.
