In 2011–12, around five million (29%) Australians were involved in some form of environmental activity. People in the highest quintile for weekly personal income were the most likely of any income quintile to have been involved in environmental activities (36%). (Table 18)

As shown in Graph 9, the most common forms of environmental involvement for Australians were signing a petition (13%) and donating money (12%). Of those who donated money to protect the environment, 47% gave between $10 to $50 for their most recent donation. (Tables 19 and 20)

People in Tasmania were more likely to have signed a petition relating to environmental issues (18%) than any other state or territory in 2011–12. (Table 19)
